Who We Support

The Norfolk Community Foundation provides grants to charitable organizations serving the residents of Norfolk County. We focus on organizations concerned with:

• Education and public learning

• Health initiatives

• Arts and culture

• Recreation

• Social services

Eligibility

• Grants are made only to registered charitable organizations or projects sponsored by a registered charity.
• Grants to educational institutions must support projects that encourage more efficient use of community resources.
• Local chapters of health-related fundraising organizations may be considered only if the project directly supports patients, caregivers, health promotion initiatives, or medical professional recruitment in Norfolk County.

Grant Guidelines

• Grants are awarded for specific purposes and for a defined period of time. Multi-year grants require periodic performance reviews.

• Preference is given to capital projects that:

  • Encourage efficient use of community resources

  • Address root causes rather than only symptoms of social problems

  • Are developed in consultation with other agencies, promoting coordination, cooperation, and the elimination of duplicated services

  • Promote volunteer participation and citizen involvement in the community

• Bursaries and scholarships are awarded to educational institutions, not individuals, in accordance with endowment fund guidelines.

• Pilot or demonstration projects must include:

  • A plan for evaluation

  • A realistic strategy for financial sustainability beyond the pilot stage

What We Do Not Fund

• Operating expenses or capital deficits

• Establishment or addition to endowment funds

• Direct religious or political activities
